Narrative Description of Bayshore Condominium
In 1964, at age 36, Ouida Baggett Regan, began building the first residential high-rise in Northwest Florida, the 13 story Bayshore. Carefully constructed to be the finest residential development in the area, the Bayshore offered excellent location, luxurious appointments, and superb views of Pensacola Bay and the fairways of the Pensacola Country Club. Amenities included covered parking, swimming pool, boat dock and beach, card room and gathering lounge, a central mail room, laundry rooms on each floor, spacious storage closets, service entrance and lockers, and thoughtfully designed kitchens. The private balcony of each unit opened the living area to the outdoors.
The Bayshore stood strong during several hurricanes, including a direct hit from Hurricane Ivan in 2006 that caused about $8 million in damages. Among the casualties was the bayside outdoor swimming pool that had to be relocated to the other side of the property.
In 2017 the Board of Directors of the Condominium Association, realizing the historical importance of returning the building to its original appearance, approved an assessment to fund restoration of the exterior of the building, including painting it the color of tan with blue vertical accent stripes as revealed in early photos. The grounds are also being returned to their former glory with the fountain at the entrance returned to its original large size. In 2018, the Association will begin the restoration of the halls and public areas of the Condominium with a target completion date of December 2018.
